Choosing the Right Office Chair

If you have ever searched online for an office chair or ergonomic chair you will have noticed that there are many different types of chair to choose from.  Looking at the amount of chairs available may seem a little daunting.

The casual observer would probably assume that the all the chairs are very similar and the only real differences are the colour and the material used.  There are, however, quite a number of differences some that are quite subtle but these differences can make the world of difference.

The main considerations when selecting office chair or ergonomic chair become apparent when you begin to think about the office in which they will be located and the people who will use them.  One may select task-only swivelling office chair; however, these are not intended for long periods of use.  If the person using the ergonomic chair is to sit in it for long periods of time then ergonomically designed secretarial chair is the right choice.  For the top dogs in the office then executive chairs are the ones to look at.Your next choice comes down to the type of chair back, there are three main types: low, mid and high back chairs.  This is choice based on personal preference and what the user finds the most comfortable.  Chair back height is not the only option worth considering, you may choose to have height adjustable or fixed arms, or no chair arms at all.

When choosing an office chair or ergonomic chair for executives, you will, no doubt, be considering a high back office chair upholstered in luxurious high quality leather.  For receptionists, secretaries and other people who spend a lot of time in their ergonomic chair then there are many chairs available that have been designed ergonomically to provide excellent comfort, promote good posture and reduce the chance of back pain or repetitive strain injury.

Other important factors to put on your check list include lumbar support and chair height.  Back pain is a common problem for people who spend a long time at their desk and this can be drastically reduced or avoided altogether if that person is given the right chair to sit in.

It has also been proved that employees respond positively to be treated well and giving your employees an office chair that they find comfortable and can prevent back pain really demonstrates to your employee that you care about their well being.

Replacing all of your chairs may seem excessive to some, however, the hard work and loyalty that you will receive in return from your employees will more than cove the cost.

When looking at colours and material types, you should take you inspiration from the office surroundings, remember that someone has possibly designed how the office looks and changing the ergonomic chair will have a dramatic effect to the appearance, so make sure you make the right choices in colour and material when selecting office chairs.  For chairs that are used regularly, strongly consider high quality leather as other materials may well wear out before the ergonomic chair mechanics do.  Leather covered chairs typically last over three times longer than ones covered with cotton based materials.
