70s Skate Disco Parties
- Print large skates on sheets of card stock and print the party details on the skates. Tell your party guests that it is a '70s-themed disco party and ask them to come dressed in their best '70s outfit. Some ideas for costumes include afros, thigh-high roller-derby socks, polyester shirts, bellbottoms, jumpsuits, glittery dresses and gold chains. For added decoration, attach small disco ball or roller skate toys to each party invitation and hand deliver to your guests.
- Talk with the skating rink about decorating the party area. After you have the okay, decorate with lava lamps, disco balls, roller skates, spinning globes and '70s dance posters. Scatter '70s candy, such as Blow Pops, Bottle Caps and Ring Pops, all over the party tables for added decoration. You can also check your local party supply store or online for '70s decor, tableware and party decorations. Hang "Saturday Night Live" posters on the walls or around the party area.
- If you ask your guests to dress in costume, award prizes for the best, most creative and funniest costumes. Let your guests make their own disco balls using polystyrene foam balls, prismatic silver wrapping paper cut into squares and electrical tape or black masking tape. Tell them to cover the ball with the black tape and glue the silver squares on the ball to create their own disco ball. If your budget allows, purchase each guest a pair of white roller skates. Guests can decorate their own pair of skates using fabric markers, stickers and permanent markers.
- Create some entertaining games for your guests to play on their skates. Mark a starting line and a finish line 25 feet apart. Give each guest a spoon and a toy disco ball. The players must race to the finish line carrying the disco ball on their spoons. The first player to cross the line wins the race. Another idea is to create an obstacle course for the guests to race through on their skates. Place several cones and foam objects on the ground for the guests to race around. The player who makes it through the course in the fastest time wins the race.
