What is acne?

Acne is a skin condition which causes your pores to become clogged and form pimples; commonly referred to as whiteheads, blackheads, and zits. These can be formed from an over-production of your oil glands, dirt inside your pores, or even bacteria blockage. For the most part, acne affects teenagers whose bodies are going through hormonal changes but unfortunately for some, this can last well into their twenties and even thirties! Luckily there are acne treatments and preventions out there that can help with this potentially embarrassing skin condition.

How can I Prevent Acne?

Preventing acne isnt really that difficult. After all, sometimes solutions are simple! First of all, dont leave make-up on while you sleep. If you have greasy hair, then wash it once a day! Use hydrating shampoo. Keep your face clean by washing it twice a day and make sure that youre always washing your hands. Dont touch your face a lot. This is a way to spread bacteria and thats a fast way to get acne.

Natural Remedies

One of the ways that you can treat your acne is one of the simplest. Try adding more water to your diet. Staying hydrated can reduce your acne by off-setting the amount of oil that your body is producing. You can also try eating more fruits - it adds a natural glow to your skin. You can also take vitamins to improve your overall health; including your skin and acne. Vitamins work in different ways however, so make sure you check out the different antioxidants out there. Once you start with home remedies, however, make sure you give yourself thirty days before you decide if its enough. Your body is going to need enough time to make the changes with you.

When to Talk to a Professional

Acne can be embarrassing but sometimes it can become more than that. Some acne forms deep underneath the skin, forming a cyst. These cysts can be painful and can even cause permanent scarring. It is important to know not to pick at or pop acne - this typically just makes it worse. If you have tried all of the natural remedies and none of them are working, you can always buy over-the-counter medication.

Sometimes in severe cases, this doesnt work either. At that point, you should consult with your normal physician. Your doctor will be able to recommend treatment and even prescribe you medication that will help. Acne treatments are often simple usually work; but if they dont, theres nothing wrong with seeking help so you dont end up with scarring.
