In the recent years, diabetes has become the most common disease all around the world.
It is so common that even young children are very well familiarized with this disease and even they can tell that it has something to do with blood sugar levels.
Some physicians believe that diabetes is hereditary while others believe that anyone can become the victim of this vicious disease.
It has now become a global menace and there are awareness programs and walks conducted all around the world to let people know about the disastrous effects of this illness on the patient's health.
It is better to take precautions than falling prey to this horrible suffering.
This is the reason why world health researchers have joined hands in finding more clues about the causes, symptoms and cures for this disease.
This is basically what pathophysiology means.
The basic meaning of pathophysiology is to monitor and study the changes that occur in the normal biochemical, physical, biological and mechanical systems.
These abnormal changes may occur due to some disease or illness.
Thus, pathophysiology explains the symptoms, causes and effects of this disease.
Diabetes is sometimes more specifically called diabetes mellitus.
There are three main types of diabetes present throughout the world.
Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common of all these types of diabetes.
Type 1 and type 2 differ slightly in their causes and effects.
Type 2 diabetes is also called "insulin resistant" diabetes.
The factors that might trigger any one of these types in an individual might differ but the major symptoms usually remain the same.
According to the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes, it may occur because of insulin resistance in the patient's body.
Insulin is the natural agent that helps the body cells in the absorption of sugars present in blood.
Once absorbed, the body cells then use these sugars to provide the much needed energy to the body.
In this way, insulin becomes an important factor in regulating blood sugar levels.
But sometimes, due to any reason whatever, the pancreas stops producing enough insulin or the body develops a resistance towards its presence and no matter how much insulin is present in the blood, the body does not absorb blood sugars.
The causes of this insulin resistance are most of the times not clearly known but research shows that excess of simple carbohydrates in the patient's diet constantly keep the blood sugar levels on a high.
To absorb this entire sugar, pancreas produces a lot of insulin and over a matter of time body stops reacting to such high levels of insulin.
The symptoms of all the three types of diabetes are the same such as hyperglycemia.
Other type 2 diabetes symptoms include excessive weight loss, unexplained hunger, frequent thirst and urination, tiredness and irritability.
Due to the dangerous nature of the disease, it is better to know about it early so a doctor can prescribe the suited diet, exercise and medications.
