Hi, I'm Danielle Valiente with Atmosphere Salon, and our topic today is how to do a backward braid. I've started out sectioning a rectangle on top of the head, and I'm doing it this way just for demonstration purposes. You could put the backward braid anywhere on the head that you'd like, you can do it like a French braid all the way back, just backwards. The most important part is how do you actually do the backward braid, so that's what I'm going to show you. I've sectioned the hair into a ponytail just to keep it out of the way while I'm demonstrating. So, I'm going to start in the front with a horizontal section, and the backward braid is really easy to do, especially if you already know how to French braid because the backward braid is a French braid, just inside-out. So, we start out by sectioning the first section into three, and where you would normally place your first outside strand over the middle, instead of going over, you actually go under, so you take it from underneath, and go under the center, and then do it on the other side, take from underneath, and go over the center. So, now, just like French braiding, when you get to the turn of the left side again, you take a piece of a little section of hair, add it into that section, and then bring it underneath the center, and then do the same thing on the other side, so just use your pinky to feed the hair into the section that's already there. And we just keep repeating the process from side to side, and remembering that what makes it different from a French braid is that it gets fed underneath the middle instead of over the top of the middle, and the end result when you're finished will be a braid that sits on top, similar to that of a cornrow, and so you can braid all the way down to the end, if you'd like. But if you continued, and went all the way back, you'd have this braid that just sits on top, as opposed to being wove within. So, that's what makes it different than a French braid. And that is how to do a backwards braid.
