The American health-care system, which gobbles up about 16% of the country’s economic output, is by far the most expensive in the world. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that on current trends spending on Medicare and Medicaid, the government schemes for the old and the poor, will rise from 4% of GDP in 2007 to 12% in 2050. The prospect of long-term fiscal disaster is the main reason why efforts to reform health care are gaining momentum in Washington, DC. As Peter Orszag, the director of Barack Obama’s Office of Management and Budget, puts it, “that ‘long term’ keeps getting closer and closer.”
The current system available for those without insurance is to show up to the Emergency Room at your local hospital. The "FREE CARE" subsidy to the staes from the federal govt. could more than pay for the healthcare for all program President Obama wants implimented. He admits to an adequate care platform for all. That will work for those currently not in the system to be protected from a catastophic illness.
Those of us that want direct service from their Primary Care Physician, Internal Medicine Doctor or Family Physician to not only treat my episodic care and diagnosis for what ails me that day, but want a full service offering. That means from an annual physical and continuity of care. THAT MEANS GETTING THE PHYSICINS TIME. Both can be accomplished by providing a tiered system, like those in Washington have. By paying a little bit more into a Concierge System( like a cup of coffee a day) we can get a superior service health-care offering. Those under the Adequate Care Plan get access to the system, just not in the same pecking order.
Look some of us drive a Honda and others a Mercedes. I'm not saying the difference is that drastic, but "you get what you pay for" holds true in every aspect of our lives. Why not cut to the chase and state the facts. Americans are going to be split. 25% of the population will opt for a better service offering and are willing to pay for it, while the other 75% will be happy with what they have access into. Everybody is happy. Get off the soap box and debating whether health-care is a right or a privilege and create what is already happening, a tiered system and get that "FREE CARE" funding to pay for the current uninsured.
