    Pre-Compiled Package

    • 1). Open a browser and choose one of the package links on KDE's website; any of the links will work with Macintosh, Windows or Linux operating systems. Download the installation files to your computer's desktop.

    • 2). Open the "Setup" file for 4.2.1 on your desktop, and remove the old 4.1.0 files when prompted by "Setup;" getting rid of these files allows your computer to install the new 4.2.1 software.

    • 3). Follow the prompts until you reach the "Destination" option, and choose your desktop as the destination for installation of 4.2.1 to finish. Open it up from your desktop to use it.

    Source Codes

    • 1). Open a browser and download each section of source code listed on KDE's website to your computer's desktop; there are 21 codes necessary to replace the 4.1.0 software.

    • 2). Open each piece of code with KDE 4.1.0 to update 4.1.0 to 4.2.1; start with the first "kdeaccessiblity-4.2.1" code and work through the rest of the codes alphabetically until you open the final "phonon 4.3.1" code to finish updating. Note that KDE will not update to 4.2.1 unless all 21 codes are used.

    • 3). Open the folder that contained your old KDE 4.1.0 software and double-click the "KDE 4.2.1" application icon that now appears to use it.
