How to Use an Earth Auger to Drill Ice
- 1). Turn the fuel lever to the off position. Set the Earth Auger on the ground and insert the proprietary Earth Auger bit tool into the hole at the gear mesh area at the top of the auger drill bit housing. Turn the tool counterclockwise to open the bit housing. Remove any drill bit in the device.
- 2). Insert the ice auger drill bit head into the Earth Auger housing and turn the tool clockwise to secure the ice drill bit onto the housing. Remove the tool and hand turn the housing once to further secure the ice drill bit into the device.
- 3). Start the Earth Auger and keep the engine in the neutral position. Position the ice drill bit directly over the ice to be bored out. Switch the engine from neutral to drill and apply pressure onto the top of the auger as the drill bit begins to bore out the ice hole.
- 4). Slow the engine and turn the gear to reverse when water starts to rise out of the ice hole indicating the drill has gone through the ice and is now in lake water. Reverse drill the auger bit out of the ice hole. Turn the engine off.
