The next thing on your agenda is winter storage of your Weber grill.
Leaving your unit outdoors can expose it to harmful elements which could damage it beyond repair.
Like any other appliance or furniture, your grill deserves some care and storage.
Below is a guide on how you can go about preserving the lifespan of your grill and in the process free you from the costs of maintenance and replacement.
After doing much outdoor cooking during the summer, your Weber grill would have generated thick coats of sticky soot, grease, and food articles which could result to corrosion of the grills and burners.
When it is time to do some grilling again, this will result to add tasting food.
However, there is no cause for worry as removing all these elements is relatively easy.
Winter storage requires disassembling every part of your Weber grill.
After dismantling, use warm soapy water for cleaning and rinse with tap water.
With a nylon pad, scrub the grates to get rid of stubborn grease.
Make sure that the grates are completely dry to prevent it from rusting.
For gas Weber grills, use a piece of wire in cleaning out the burners and poking the gas jets to remove any barrier.
Prior to winter storage, check for components that have accumulated rust and requires replacement.
Try to buy one during this season as you might be able to find cheaper components.
Otherwise, you can just write down the name of the store which has the component and buy it during spring or summer when they resume selling grill products again.
In addition, this may be the best time to do some repainting of the parts that might require it.
If you are up to the task, you can proceed to a local hardware and purchase some canisters.
The dealer will already have an idea of the kind of spray paint to give you upon explaining your purpose.
When all is done, it's time to reinstall your clean Weber grill.
To make sure that it is thoroughly dry, switch it on one last time for about 40 minutes.
Use a thin film of cooking oil in spraying the metal parts of the grill as additional security from build-up of moisture during winter storage.
Now you can store the grill with ease after you are done cleaning it.
Cover it with tarpaulin or a well-fitting covering and tuck it in safely inside your garage.
One final check is to remove the propane bottles and keep them in a place with good ventilation away from the moisture of the winter months.
Storing these gas bottles in an enclosed place may present the risk of fire or explosion in case of a gas leak.
