When American Dad first premiered, I interviewed Matt Weissman and Mike Barker about heading a Seth MacFarlane project. They were interested in defining American Dad as a different cartoon than Family Guy, which it most certainly is. They also talked about their disappointment in working on Father of the Pride for NBC. They said jokes and punchlines just didn't work as well in CGI rather than traditional 2D animation.
