DIY Conveyancing in Tasmania
- 1). Download the legal papers you need from the National Electronic Conveyancing System at necs.gov.au. This will provide federal, but not state, papers.
- 2). Contact your city or town government, and ask for a copy of your title and any encumbrances or liens against your title. The cost and time needed will vary by location.
- 3). Inspect the title for any special provisions you must meet before conveying is allowed. A standard title won't have any special provisions, but a specific title may include stipulations.
- 4). Contact your local property tax and water authority, and inform them that you're transferring ownership. Provide them with the names of both parties who are transferring the property and the transfer date. Various localities have different criteria for requirements to perform this switch, such as a minimum advance notice.
- 5). Purchase a Tasmanian conveyance kit, which can be bought at your local newsagent and will cost about $100AUD. This contains all the standard legal documents that you and the other party must complete.
