How to Clean a Warm-Mist Humidifier
- 1). Unplug the humidifier and empty out the water. Wipe down the outside of the apparatus with a clean, damp cloth to remove any debris. Open the appliance and wipe down the interior as well.
- 2). Fill the base of the humidifier with a cup of white vinegar. Allow it soak for at least an hour. Occasionally shake the vinegar around in the base.
- 3). Use your soft brush to thoroughly scrub the base completely. Go over the entire surface, and concentrate on any area that appears to be encrusted. You are seeking to remove all the mineral deposits that have built up.
- 4). Clean all the other areas of the humidifier with your soft brush, dipped in white vinegar. A soft-bristled toothbrush is effective in cleaning the "hard to get to" spots and the coils of the machine. Remove the misting chamber and clean it in the same manner as the rest of the humidifier.
- 5). Remove the vinegar from the appliance. Rinse the base thoroughly with cold water. Pour distilled water into the base of the machine and allow it to sit. Measure the amount of water it takes to fill the base. Replace the misting chamber into the humidifier.
- 6). Add chlorine beach to your base in the amount of 1 tsp. to every gallon of distilled water. Soak the base for at least an hour in this bleach solution to thoroughly disinfect your machine.
- 7). Remove the bleach water from the base. Replace the amount of bleach water with distilled water, and allow it to soak for another hour.
- 8). Remove distilled water from the machine and rinse three times with clean distilled water. Check the apparatus for any residue. Wipe with clean, soft cloth to dry. Check for any remaining smell of chlorine, and repeat soaking with distilled water and rinsing if necessary.
