The secret key to the success of Belachan is the action of natural bacterial enzyme activity! Natural bacterial enzymes partially digest the whole proteins within the prawn and shrimp. The natural digestion turns the proteins into freely soluble peptides and amino acids. Free amino acids and peptides are feeding stimulants, attractants and enhancers that carp very easily detect in solution when released from bait!

Belachan is made totally naturally and is part of native traditions for making nutrition more accessible and digestible! Within the whole proteins of the krill or shrimp or crab or fish being fermented micro-organisms break down the whole proteins into more free form amino acids and peptides and other forms of flavours too. The natural fermentation of the Belachan proteins make the amino acids far more detectable to fish and thus are very highly stimulatory in achieving more bites! In the Belachan fermentation all the food groups are broken down and this seriously enhances the attraction and palatability of the Belachan and food it is used with!

Belachan is made using a totally natural process passed down from generation to generation using the heat of the sun! The whole proteins and other components of the shrimps, krill, crab or fish are pre-digested by the enzymes of micro-organisms. Natural fermentation is one of the biggest edges in refining and improving baits and bait substances in baits for carp, catfish and countless other fish! All the food groups including the proteins are pre-digested by micro-organisms and make the Belachan incredibly stimulatory and attractive to fish!

After a fermentation period the paste is dried, milled and compressed and then fermented a second time. The Belachan when fermented sufficiently is compressed and cut into blocks for sale. The biological availability of the nutrients and the high enhancing salt content and solubility of Belachan make is extremely well suited for stimulating fish and improving fishing baits of many forms including boilies and pastes, stick mixes and particles such as hemp seed and tiger nuts. Belachan can be formed from krill or shrimps or have regional variations and be made in different ways or with other materials such as crab or fish and have many differing forms and colours.

After the first period of fermentation the Belachan paste is then fermented a second time. The Belachan is dried, compressed and made into blocks for sale and wrapped in plastic to protect it from moisture! The fermentation of Belachan unlocks the nutritional factors and makes it irresistible to fish! Belachan and related forms can be produced naturally from krill, shrimps, crab or fish and have many regional differences in colour, form, taste, appearance and consistency!

The high salt content of Belachan makes it extremely palatable and soluble. Salty fishing baits are exceptional due to them being so able to disperse into the water column along with all other soluble components of a bait. Some fermented shrimp or krill products may differ in salt content and some may contain more protein compared to salt! Belachan which contains high levels of protein plus salt are exceptional in fishing baits such as boilies!

Belachan is exceptional partially due to its salt content which enhances the free form amino acids, peptides and flavours it has developed and releases! Salt and amino acids are part of the key to success in carp and big catfish baits and in particular boilie success where solubility and release of amino acids etc is so vital to triggering feeding! Some fermented krill or shrimp products contain more protein and less salt and personally Id choose those with the highest protein content! Belachan containing the most protein is the very best to use in boilies, pastes, stick mixes etc!

Lower salt and higher protein Belachan forms are superior and contain more true feeding triggers! True feeding triggers include many amino acids in free form, plus additional low molecular weight organic acids developed in Belachan. Mineral salts in Belachan can join onto the amino acids in various ways and seriously enhance them in stimulating fish feeding! Salt-enhanced amino acids very seriously enhance the majority of other bait components in function and impacts!

The Belachan forms with most protein and lower salt are superior and contain higher levels of true feeding triggers! True feeding triggers include free form amino acids and mineral salts joined in some way to amino acids. Fish are very attracted to salt-enhanced amino acids so using Belachan in boilies, pastes, stick mixes and more really enhances bait performance! Belachan contains salt-enhanced amino acids which also enhance many natural flavours and additional flavours and enhancers used in carp and other baits!

Belachan is what I regard an essential type of additive for use in all baits you make! Even inferior forms of less salty Belachan type products significantly suck water inside baits thus improving their performance! The effect of sucking water into baits is a vital effect in bait success! I always exploit the sucking in of water into baits effect extremely powerfully within my own baits.

The sucking in of water property of Belachan and similar products seriously influences my own choices of additives and ingredients that I use for my own homemade baits! I exploit both powder and liquid forms for instant, and long duration intensity of stimulation and attraction! Belachan contains a very rich highly concentrated profile of free form water soluble amino acids that are highly digestible and easily assimilated by carp. Feed stimulating amino acids such as glutamic acid within Belachan and related substances specially enhance impacts of other bait ingredients too!

The amino acids within fermented shrimp block and related products are very concentrated and highly water soluble. Soluble amino acids and salts within Belachan are easy for carp to detect! The combinations of Belachan and shrimp amino acids are highly representative of what carp and catfish senses evolved to be most sensitive to, within their aquatic environment. It makes absolute good sense to exploit vital natural stimulation of Belachan and Belachan-like products in any direct and related way you can, and by initially thinking about the exploiting of carp senses first (instead of bait brands and products first,) you will always have guaranteed great baits!

Belachan is very high protein food and both the powder and block will be over 60 and 70 percent protein making them exceptional additives for almost any bait use; an example of very high protein fermented shrimp products are the CC Moore versions, including their Belachan liquid. You can apply Belachan and fermented shrimp products to endless baits and as the basis of endless liquid solution mixtures. You can use Belachan and related substances in making homemade dips and glugs, preparing particles, pastes, boilies and pellets, defrosting seafood baits, soaking fish and meat and other such baits, and even adding to maggots and sweetcorn for example to boost them!

With a 60 to 70 percent protein content Belachan is a supreme naturally-stimulating additive for big carp and catfish baits! Why not experiment making your own liquid foods based upon Belachan! Why not think out of the box and use Belachan in unique ways beyond using powder or block in boilies and pastes; e.g. try making glugs and dips using it and soak your pellets in it!
