Agriculture Scholarships for African-Americans
- The National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Association sponsors the Booker T. Washington Scholarship. The scholarship is open to African-American students who are graduating high school seniors planning to major in agriculture. As of the 2010-2011 academic school year, the scholarship awarded up to $10,000 to selected winners. During the selection process, leadership in community activities and FFA activities will be considered.
- The Monsanto Fund/United Negro College Fund 1890s Scholarship Program is open to African-American students majoring in agriculture who attend a historically black land-grant institution. Land-grant schools include Tuskegee University in Alabama, Prairie View A&M University in Texas, and 16 others. College juniors and seniors who have a 3.0 grade point average are eligible to apply for the scholarship. As of the 2010-2011 school year, the scholarship awarded $10,000 to each of 10 selected students.
- The A.P. Bell Scholarship is available to incoming freshmen and current agribusiness students attending North Carolina A&T State University. Students must have a 3.0 grade point average and be able to demonstrate leadership. As of the 2010-2011 academic school year, the scholarship awarded $1,000 each to two students. The recipients are selected by the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences chairperson. Students must be U.S. citizens to be considered.
- African-American students who plan to major in agriculture at Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, can receive a scholarship from the agricultural department. The scholarship is available to students who are full-time students who meet a 3.0 grade-point-average requirement. The amount a student receives is based on funding. The scholarship is renewable. Applications for the scholarship are available through the agriculture department's office.
