Mobility Lift Solutions for the Vehicle

Today there are several different types of mobility lifts available for the vehicle.
These include the ramp, outside lift, inside lift, and hybrid lift.
Each lift has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Not all vehicles can accommodate all types of lifts, so it's important to ensure the mobility lift you choose will fit your vehicle.
Ramp While the most basic way to get a wheelchair or scooter to an elevated place, ramps are generally best suited for vans where there is sufficient room for their use.
Ramps generally must be handled by another person and do not work well for an independent disabled person.
They are easily portable and generally fit well in any van.
Ramps can also be used in homes to go from one level to another.
Outside Lifts Outside wheelchair lifts are platforms mounted to hitches that are attached to the rear of the vehicle.
Many models will fit in standard trailer hitches already installed on some vehicles.
Outside lifts are designed for use with cars, vans, SUVs, and motor homes.
These platforms come in all sizes to fit most any wheelchair or scooter and most any vehicle.
Inside Lifts A mobility lift for keeping the wheelchair or scooter inside the vehicle is generally made with a swinging arm that attaches to the wheelchair and lift it into the vehicle.
Since the wheelchair is stored inside the vehicle they are generally used with vans and SUVs, but can be found in trunks.
These generally have to be custom installed, but some can use the existing last seat hardware of the vehicle.
These are generally installed in the back of a vehicle, but could go inside the side of a van.
Hybrid Lifts A hybrid lift is simply a platform that is mounted inside a vehicle and allows the wheelchair or scooter to be driven onto the platform which then lifts it into the inside of the vehicle.
Due to the size and use, these can only be used with vans.
These are often used for side doors to a van, or can be installed in the back of SUVs.
These platform lifts often allow locking in the wheelchair so the disabled person never has to leave the wheelchair during travel.
Once you've determined the type of vehicle which will be used to transport the wheelchair or scooter it's simple to find the right mobility lift to make transportation an easy process.
