How to Diagnose a Bosch Dishwasher Leak
- 1). Dry off all moisture on the dishwasher with a soft, dry cloth. Start the dishwasher and observe the machine to determine the source of the leak. If it is leaking from underneath, there may be a clogged drain or a malfunctioning pump. All Bosch-brand dishwashers contain a catch tub located under the wash tub. If water collects in the catch tub, a sensor activates the drain pump. If the sensor is defective, leaking water will not drain away. If a new sensor is required, parts are readily available online or from your local Bosch appliance dealer.
- 2). Examine the door gasket. If your Bosch dishwasher is leaking around the door it may be a defective door gasket. They tend to wear out over time. Door gaskets should be firm, resilient and free of cracks, bulges or other visible signs of damage or wear. If the gasket is defective, a replacement can be purchased online or from your local Bosch appliance dealer.
- 3). Unplug the dishwasher. Examine the hoses or pipes connecting water to your Bosch dishwasher. A connection may have vibrated loose and may be presenting a small leak at the water source.
- 4). All Bosch dishwashers have a clear drainage hose so it is fairly easy to see if debris is clogging the line and preventing the dishwasher from draining. Use a flashlight to inspect the drainage hose connecting the dishwasher to the plumbing drain. Backed up water may leak beneath the dishwasher into the catch tub. If the line is plugged, clear it by flushing it with water or blowing the clog out with air pressure.
- 5). Clean the drain and filters. A clogged dishwasher cannot drain properly and may overflow and leak. Mineral deposits or accumulated debris may be clogging the main plumbing drain. If the main drain is running slowly, use a plumber's snake to clear the line.
- 6). Reach your finger inside the drain in the dishwasher to feel if the impeller on the drain pump is moving freely. The impeller is a small plastic fitting somewhat similar to the blades of a fan. If the impeller will not turn, a chip of glass or other debris may be preventing it from moving freely to remove the water from the unit. To access the impeller, the motor will have to be disassembled. This is a complex procedure that requires a Bosch appliance service technician.
