Think feature phones are dead? Think again, as the Finnish mobile manufacturer hasnt given up its hopes on this segment. Regarded as dumb phones by many, feature phones still control majority of the mobile phone market in several nations all over the world, especially emerging markets. But, thats not al. Nokia aims to redefine the way people look at this segment by incorporating several new features in their latest handsets, and getting this segment closer to the smartphones.

If you remember Nokia initiated Asha series a few months back, and received success in many developing nations. This lineup is great, but lacks a full touch handset. Fulfilling consumers demands, Nokia has uncovered not just one but three devices in this lineup, Asha 305, Nokia Asha 306 and Nokia Asha 311. At the moment, we would like to focus only on the Asha 306.

Running on the Series 40 operating system, it is very user-friendly and is much better than the feature phones we have seen in the recent past. For instance, a notification bar has been incorporated which reminds us of Android and several other major platforms. As this handset is yet to be launched, we will deviate from commenting on the user experience. But, the first impressions are pretty exciting.

As it is targeted at the emerging markets, mobile internet is another area where Nokia leaves its mark. Consumers in such regions surf internet mostly on their handsets, and even many have their first interaction with the amazing web world on their mobile phones. Such is the importance of mobile phones in these areas. Interestingly, the connectivity speeds there happens to be disappointing. To solve this crisis, this handset comes with Nokia Browser that reduces data charges and accelerates the speed. Hence, Asha 306 is developed for the youth, urban & social consumers who prefer to enjoy internet swifter, better & less expensive.

Sadly, the touchscreen is resistive but cant complain considering the affordable price tag this handset carries. The 3-inch screen is sufficient, and leaves no room for complaints. Surprisingly, it comes with Wi-Fi connectivity, and hence we can say that it is one of the most affordable Wi-Fi supporting phones in the market.

To augment the entertainment factor, the Finnish mobile manufacturer has joined hands with EA games. As a result, we get a package of forty games on this handset. These games include Bejeweled, Tetris, Need for Speed, The Run and lots more. One thing that we miss is the dual-SIM support. But, we can manage without that. Still, individual preferences may vary.

So folks, this great device will hit the market shelves in the Q3 2012. We expect all the prominent service providers to come up with Nokia Asha 306 deals. These network operators include Vodafone, Three, T-Mobile, Orange, O2, etc. Nokia Asha 306 deals could be offered in three major categories. However, in many emerging markets contracts are not offered. So, buying Nokia Asha 306 deals is out of the equation for consumers there.
