Count on color. Nothing is more important to a bohemian feel than a bold color pallet. Paint walls red, orange or hot pink and bring in accent colors through the bedspread and window treatments.

Implement light fixtures and lamps that cast deep hues. While not exactly practical for every day use, pink or red light bulbs produce dramatic color. Cover lamp shades with scarves to alter the lighting.

Go heavy on the knick knacks and decorative touches. Leave no space untouched as you integrate design details. Select items that are eye-catching, rich in color and have embellished exteriors. Items should be unique and possess old world charm.

Dress up the bed. Use a quilt, bedspread or duvet with rich color. Consider vibrantly patterned bed linens. Bring in an assortment of pillows in a variety of colors and incorporate multi-colored throws and blankets for layered color and added texture. Cover the bed with a sheer mosquito net or canopy.

Cover walls with unusual artwork, tapestries or wallpaper. Wall hangings should be in keeping with the opulent design scheme.
