Two Filters

• The Hoover Flair vacuum broom contains two filters. The first of these is found inside the dirt cup. The dirt cup collects any dirt and debris picked up by the vacuum. The attached filter separates small particles from the debris. Hoover recommends emptying the dirt cup after each use of the vacuum. Cleaning of the dirt cup filter is an integral part of emptying and maintaining the dirt cup.
  
  A second filter, called the "final" filter, helps return clean air to the room. Check this filter periodically. This filter cannot be cleaned. Replace the final filter once it is dirty (references 1 pdf pg. 5).
  
  

Dirt Cup Removal and Dirt Disposal

• Located at the front of the Hoover Flair vacuum broom, the dirt cup contains a latch for easy removal of the cup. Once it has been detached, hold the dirt cup over a garbage can and remove the filter at the top. Set the filter aside for the time being. Turn the dirt cup upside down to empty the contents into the garbage. Occasionally wipe down the inside of the dirt cup with a damp cloth to remove dirt buildup. Allow the dirt cup to dry completely before reinstalling it.
  
  

Dirt Cup Filter Cleaning

• Tap the dirt cup filter against the side of the garbage can to dislodge dirt and dust particles. Pinch the inside of the filter, and pull it inside out . Use an old or unwanted toothbrush to gently clean the surface of the filter of stubborn dirt particles, and then carry the filter over to your sink. Rinse the filter thoroughly in warm water, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling it in the dirt cup.
  
  

Final Filter Removal

• A grill on the side of the Hoover Flair vacuum body protects the final filter from damage.The grill includes a tab at the top for quick removal. Once the grill has been removed, separate the final filter from the side of the grill. This filter must be replaced, rather than cleaned. Replace this filter with Hoover part number 59136-022.
