Avadon: The Black Fortress is a throw back to the old turn-based role-playing games, where the idea of strategy trumped how fast you could click a mouse button or tap the screen.

The game isn't the most visually appealing on the app store -- it's not going to compete with Infinity Blade -- but the graphics are good enough to put you into the mood for some old school RPG fun. You are able to pick from one of four classes, and you can recruit a couple of mates to join you on your adventure.

The adventure itself mixes between the main story line and dozens of side quests and secret areas you can discover as you go about your business. Like all great RPGs of old, micromanaging both our characters in combat and your loot out of combat is part of the fun, and for those looking to relive the 'good old days', Avadon: The Black Fortress easily comes out as one of the best old school RPGs.
