A common element among most people is their usage of the internet and that their usage of the Google search engine. The many Google redirect virus uses this to take over someone's computers in an effort to scam them. Basically they fall under the browser hijack object virus category. If you possess a desktop or a laptop computer there is roughly a 94% chance it will get infected with this at some time.
Overall it's not like any other rogue program. The files and applications for your system remain unchanged. What it will do is change some of the files which your windows and when it has completed this it deletes itself from the system. Many programs have problems finding and fixing it for this reason. Often when clicking on some websites they could direct you to click other sites. This could be because they have moved, are selling something or the page is just dead. In the internet business this is called linking and is a very common thing to do. When infected a virus can take advantage of linking by only giving you links it chooses. This is one of the ways bad guys increase their site traffic.
They can affect the search results on many different search engines like bing, yahoo and Google among the three biggest. However they also work on the smaller less known ones as well. They are a real threat and should never be ignored. For the typical person they pose far too many safety issues to be ignored.
To begin fixing this, first you need to repair all the infected settings the virus changed that are on your computer. There are many very specific software programs that have been made for people to do this for them. Basically there are 2 different ways for people to repair them. The automatic removal with a program method, and the do it yourself manual replace and removal method.
Most people find using a program for automatic removal to generally be the easiest method to use. Just go to the store and purchase a reputable spy-ware program or download it from the internet. Open up the package and read through the instructions. Make sure you understand them and follow them exactly. When you finish reboot the computer and it should be completely fixed.
The manual removal technique is much harder to do. It is not a method to use unless you are very knowledgeable about programing and how your operating system works. It involves going into the system root files finding the infected files yourself and replacing them. It is quite easy to permanently damage your computer's system if you delete the wrong thing. Most people just use a program to do the work for them.
As viruses go the Google redirect virus is thought to be the worst out there. Keep in mind that there is not always a single anti-virus and anti-malware product for detecting and deleting every problem. Firewalls are your number one defense against these attacks, routine scanning is number two. Prevention is 90% of the cure.
