Honeywell Thermocouple Installation
- 1). Turn off the gas supply to the furnace at the shut-off valve on the gas line. The shut-off valve will be facing at a 90-degree angle to the gas line when the gas is shut off.
- 2). Turn off the breaker switch for the furnace at the circuit breaker box, and take off the upper access panel on the furnace. Locate the pilot assembly that is attached to the burner and remove the thermocouple from the main gas valve by unfastening the nut that holds it place using an open-end wrench.
- 3). Unfasten the pilot gas tubing from the main gas valve and loosen the screws that hold the thermocouple mounting bracket to the burner using a screwdriver. Take the assembly out of the furnace and remove the thermocouple from the mounting bracket.
- 4). Place the new Honeywell thermocouple in the mounting bracket and reattach the bracket to the burner. Connect the gas tubing to the main gas valve and close the upper access panel.
- 5). Turn the breaker switch back on for the furnace at the circuit breaker box, and turn the gas back on at the shut-off valve. Turn the gas valve knob to the "pilot" setting and push down on the knob.
- 6). Light the pilot light with a lighter and continue to hold the gas valve knob down for a few seconds until the pilot is burning steady. Lift your hand off the valve knob and set the dial to "on".
