How to Decorate a Large Bedroom Wall Above a Dresser
- 1). Determine your goals for the dresser and wall area. Some people want a functional space, with extra storage or display options around the dresser. Others prefer a more decorative upgrade.
- 2). Integrate architectural elements that lend the bedroom wall space more prominence. For a dramatic look, adhere a lightweight plaster arch that extends from one corner of the dresser to the other. If you prefer a more contemporary look, install a narrow ledge that extends the length of the wall and use it to showcase small-scale artwork.
- 3). Paint the wall above your dresser. A bold accent color that covers the entire wall makes it the bedroom's focal point. Lime green, periwinkle blue or mango orange have a festive look. For a moodier effect, consider burgundy, charcoal gray or cobalt. Strike a shabby chic tone with icy pink or barely blue.
- 4). Decorate the wall with artwork or accessories. Some people may feel tempted to showcase a collection in this space but, unless the pieces are large or have dramatic impact as a group, a large wall will swallow them. Instead, hang or prop a large painting or thematic triptych over your dresser for a decorative approach. For a more functional approach, you can stick with the classic framed mirror. For a pop of graphics, consider a large ethnic textile or wall decals.
- 5). Illuminate your bedroom wall decor. Up-lighting with wall sconces can highlight details in an artwork or wall hanging, but does not work well with mirrors because it casts a ghoulish glow on your reflection. Overhead track lighting or small, gallery-style spotlights allow you to point them in multiple directions. A small table lamp in the corner of the dresser adds ambient glow.
