Proper Placement of a Tie Tack

    Choose a Button Hole

    • The tie tack is designed to hold your tie in place while you are moving or while the wind is blowing. If it is placed too high, it will be ineffective at holding your tie in place. If it is too low, your tie may billow like a sail in the wind, and the tack will be un-aesthetically pleasing. To choose the right place, locate your solar plexus, which is where your ribs come together in the front of your body. You will be choosing a button at this area or just above it for your tie tack.

    Apply the Tie Tack

    • Undo the button that you have selected for your tie tack. Unfasten your pin and set the decorative front aside while you insert the part of the tie tack that is shaped like a T though the button hole. Then button up the shirt again with the chain part of the tie tack dangling from the front. Lay the tie against your shirt the way it will fall naturally and push the front of the pin through the tie just above the button. When you are doing this, you should make sure that the tack is centered in the tie. After it has gone through both the front and the back piece of the tie, stick the tack into the back piece.

    Perfect the Placement

    • After your tie tack is pinned to your tie initially, test the placement by bending over and seeing how you like the length that hangs. You can also lift the bottom part of the tie to check how high it can come. After convenience has been determined, use a mirror to check the appearance of the tie tack. Tie tacks are for fashion as well as for practical applications, so it should also look good. If you don't like the way your tie tack looks, you can remove it from your tie and from the button hole in your shirt to move it up or down to a new button hole by following the directions outlined above.
