How to Hide Basement Bulkheads
- 1). Install fencing panels that extend from the home's exterior wall to the end of the bulkhead. Choose fencing like solid wood or metal to ensure it's completely hidden. Select fencing that matches existing fencing in your yard and goes with your home's exterior. In between the two fence panels, install a gate so you can maintain access to the door.
- 2). Install garden lattice fencing on either side of the bulkhead entry with a gate in the front to complete the fence. Plant creeping vines and plants like honeysuckle and ivy that will grow upwards, filling in the holes of the lattice.
- 3). Use plants to hide a basement bulkhead using only natural elements. Plant rows of tall bushes, ornamental grasses or shrubs on either side of the basement bulkhead like forsythia or butterfly bushes. Stick to evergreen bushes like holly, juniper or boxwood to get maximum coverage for hiding throughout the year. Leave the front end of the bulkhead open for access or plant bushes making sure to leave enough space for a person to fit through.
- 4). Build a wall on either side of the bulkhead extension using materials that blend with your home. Make sure the wall is high enough to conceal the bulkhead adequately. Install a gate between the two walls along the front edge of the bulkhead to allow for access.
