Jack is asleep. We are focused on his eye.

"Jack," Juliet says. "Jack!"

He opens his eye and she slowly comes into focus.

"Jack, I need you to wake up. Jack! Can you hear me?"

He sits up and she says, "You okay?"

From outside they hear, "Come on, I just want to know why."

"What happened?" Jack asks. Jack goes out and Juliet follows.

"I want the truth!" Bernard says to Daniel.

"I don't know, that's the truth, I'm telling you. I don't know why, but there's no signal now," Daniel says.

"Signal? What, there was a signal when you called them last night! So, so, so what? Now, they're just ignoring us?" Bernard says.

"How are we supposed to know why they're not answering?" Charlotte says. "In case you haven't noticed, we're not on the bloody boat, are we?"

"Hey, just watch your tone, Red," Rose says.

"Hey, everyone just needs to calm down, okay," Jack says.

"Jack, these people are lying to us!" Bernard says.

"I know they are lying," Jack says. "I know it. Sooner or later their people are going to come back for them. And when they do, we'll be waiting for them." Jack starts to walk away.

"Unless they run off again," Sun says.

"Listen to me," Jack says. He stops.

"Jack, are you all right?" Rose asks.

"I'm fine. We just have to be patient, okay. I've gotten us this far. I said I was going to get us off the island, all of us, I promised I would-" Jack collapses.

"Jack!" Juliet runs to him.

Jack's Flash Forward - Jack and Kate

Jack is asleep in a bed. The phone rings and he wakes and answers. "Hello." He looks at his watch.
"Dr. Shephard," the woman on the other end of the phone says, "just confirming your eleven o'clock consult."

Jack puts his watch down.

"It was moved up yesterday and I know how you are with your calendar."

"Yeah, yeah, I remember, Jane. I'll, um, I'll be in there."

"Thank you, Doctor."

Jack gets out of bed and wraps a towel around his waist. He picks up some panties from the floor and then goes into the kitchen. He steps on a toy. He takes two wine glasses and puts them in the sink, then makes coffee. He picks up the paper and reads, "Yankees bludgeon Red Sox in series sweep."

He goes into the bathroom where a woman is in the shower. He opens the shower door. "Good morning."

"Good morning, yourself. I bought you a razor."

"What? You don't like the scruff?"

She laughs. "Razor's by the sink, Jack"

He looks at the razor and when she turns off the shower, he grabs a towel and holds it for her. He opens the door and Kate steps out. They kiss.

Later, Jack reads to Aaron as he lays in his bed. Alice took up the fan and gloves, and, as the hall was very hot, she kept fanning herself all the time she went on talking: 'Dear, dear! How queer everything is today! And yesterday things went on just as usual. I wonder if I've been changed in the night'"

Jack notices Kate watching him from the doorway. He continues to read. 'Let me think, was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is, Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle!'"

Jack puts the book away, turns off the light, and goes out. Kate closes the door. They stand in the hallway. "You're a natural," Kate says.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

"My old man used to read me that story."

"Really?" Kate smiles.

"What?"

"It's just sweet hearing you say nice things about your dad."

"I don't say nice things about my dad?"

She shakes her head.

"Well, he was a good storyteller, I'll give him that. Hey, you okay?" He rubs her arms.

"Yeah. It's just, I love seeing you with him. I'm so glad you changed your mind. I'm so glad that you're here."

"Me too." He kisses her.

Dehydration or Something More?

Juliet helps to lean Jack up against a tree and says to keep him in the shade. "I'll get him some water."
Jack hunches over and Jin asks if he's okay.

He says he's fine and gets up. Kate runs over. She asks Bernard what happened and Bernard tells her that Jack passed out.

"You fainted?" she asks Jack.

"I'm just a little dehydrated."

She puts her hands on his face. "Jack, you're not okay. You're burning up."

"I'm fine. I just need to get a little rest."

They all watch him walk toward his shelter.

Rousseau and Karl

As Sawyer, Claire, and Miles walk through the jungle, Claire carrying Aaron, she stumbles and Sawyer asks if she's okay.
"Yeah," she says, "just a bit woozy."

"How's your head?"

"It's better, a bit of a headache, but at least I'm not seeing things anymore."

"Yeah?" Miles says, "What'd you see?"

Sawyer says, "Back off, Donger."

"I'm just making conversation," he says.

"Let's make some time. I want to cover more ground before we got to camp tonight. If we hoof it, we can make it to the beach by noon tomorrow."

Miles stops. He hears screaming and looks around. He hears Alex crying.

Sawyer sees that he's stopped. "What? Hey! Hey!"

"Who's Danielle and Karl?" Miles asks.

"You mean Rousseau? The French woman?" Claire asks.

Miles bends down and starts to dig. He digs out Rousseau's face. "Is this your French woman?"

He digs out Karl's face.

"Karl," Sawyer says. "How'd you know they were down there? Your buddies do this?"

"They're not my buddies, man." Miles stands. "I didn't sign up for this."

"Can we just get out of here, please?" Claire says. "Can we just go?"

"Yeah, yeah, of course," Sawyer says. "But don't worry. Once we get back to the beach, everything's going to be fine. All right?"

Claire nods and she and Sawyer leave. Miles looks at the burial site a bit longer.
