How to Write Wedding Invitations When Parents Are Deceased

    • 1). Choose whether you wish to include the name of the deceased parent. You do not have to include the deceased parent on the invitation. You can simply only include the name of the surviving parent.

    • 2). Include the deceased parent with the words “the late” in the invitation. Write “son of Mr. Davis and the late Mrs. Davis” on the invite. If both parents are deceased, write “daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davis.”

    • 3). Write “Mrs. Joe Davis” on the invitation if your father is deceased and your mother has not remarried. You can leave your father off the invitation this way if you choose to do so.

    • 4). Include the remarried spouse’s name on the invitation. If your mother has remarried, then include the new spouses name after “Mrs.” on the invitation. You can also include the name of the remarried parent with the late parent. Write “Susan Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Smith and the late Mr. Joe Davis” on the invite.
