Alternative Tinnitus Treatment
- The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) reports that taking ginkgo biloba may successfully relieve some symptoms of tinnitus (see Resources). Gingko is available in health food stores and is usually taken by mouth.
- Boosting the amount of zinc in your diet may be linked to a decrease in tinnitus symptoms, according to the National Library of Medicine (NLM) (see Resources). This link is tentative at best and requires further study.
- The ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture is used to remedy a long list of ailments, including ringing of the ears. Acupuncture realigns the body's energy, called the qi, and is effective in relieving pain and other abnormalities throughout the body.
- Submitting to hypnosis is an alternative treatment for tinnitus that produces results in some patients.
- Discuss all alternative treatments for your tinnitus with your doctor before beginning treatment. Each individual's medical history will determine if supplements and other forms of treatment are safe and appropriate for use.
