Without a doubt, the recession and hit the economy has taken has impacted way too many people in the form of lost jobs.
It's tough out there, and fortunately, Harvey Mackay provides some solid advice to those seeking work.
The book is obviously for those who have lost a job, but also for anyone who may want to seek different employment or career advancement.
The book is called "Use Your Head To Get Your Foot In The Door: Job Search Secrets No One Else Will Tell You," and in typical Mackay fashion, it is full of practical advice contained in short chapters and vignettes that not only will help people find a new job, but give them hope and encouragement that they really can, even in this frustrating time of high unemployment rates and seemingly insurmountable odds for some jobless workers.
Again, the book contains many short chapters that stand on their own regarding the advice and strategies provided, but as a whole, you can revise, refine and formulate your job search to obtain the position you desire.
The chapters are organized under several topics or parts.
These include: Dark Days, Reconstruct Your Attitude, Re-employment: Your Extreme Preparation Guide, Mobilize Your Network, Fill In the Blanks, D-Day Plan the Attack, Get Hired, Stay Afloat, and Afterthoughts.
At the end of many of the chapters, Mackay finishes with what he calls a Mackay's Moral.
These are good little sound bites or quotes that motivate and contain very good advice.
Morals such as "Don't get dejected if you've been rejected - just get your new you perfected!" and "Remember the purpose of the resume.
It's to enable you to resume work.
" I also liked, "Dress like a mess and you won't see success.
" and "You may not be interviewing for a sales job, but you have to be a great salesperson to sell yourself.
" There are many more, and while they seem simple, they contain very practical advice.
Mackay provides advice on fixing and bettering yourself, as well as getting out and doing the things needed to find new employment.
