Avril: The Quintessential Kenyan Diva, Actress And Model
Avril not to be mistaken with international icon Avril Lavigne has lately been on the lips of many Kenyan folk as a result of the breakthroughs she has produced. She started out as a singer on the Ogopa Djs music stable where she has managed to produce a series of hits for example Mama, Chokoza and of late Kitu Kimoja. She has also been associated in music collaborations with artistes for example Colonel Mustafa on Mtaani.com, Trapee on Najivunia, Tanzanian AY on the LEO remix and eventually with Sudanese favourite Lam.
Christened Judith Nyambura Mwangi, she hails from meek origins by being born and bred in Nakuru. Nonetheless this has not slowed her down from achieving her dreams in the showbiz industry. Avril was engaged in a series of school tournaments in poetry and drama while attending primary and secondary school in Uganda. She was the school's entertainment guru while in primary school. While in secondary school she mercurially participated in roles in dramatics, making melodies and directing school plays.
Lately she has been establishing alertness for teat cancer with recording partner Marya. This has been through making herself available for periodic breast examination and presenting herself topless for some photo shots. This year she landed a role in a drama series, MTV Shuga: Love, Sex and Money where she played out the role of Miss B'Have a desperate romanticist. This is a presentation which has come a long way to create awareness in the fight against the HIV/Aids pandemic which has hit Kenya and Africa as a whole.
Another of her feats is that she is a graduate in design from the University of Nairobi. Nonetheless it has not all been positive limelight for Avril.
