How to Troubleshoot a GE 8-Cycle, 2-Speed Heavy-Duty Washer
- 1). Wait a few minutes before taking any action. The "Ultra Handwash," "Delicates" and "Casuals" cycles incorporate a soaking period during which the appliance appears inactive. This pause is completely normal and does not affect the quality of the wash. The washing machine adds a 15-minute soak period when you select the highest level of soiling.
- 2). Press the "Power" button before you select a cycle; the controls could be in sleep mode. Go over the wash instructions, ensuring you select the options appropriate for your fabrics, tightly close the door and press "Start." The appliance will not fill until the door is completely closed. Do not select a delayed-start option if you want your clothes washed immediately.
- 3). Move the washing machine forward so you can see the water supply and drainage pipes as well as the power cord. Make sure all the pipes are free of kinks and that the shut-off valves regulating the hot and cold water supplies are open. Check the power cord is plugged into a working outlet without an extension cord or adapter. Check your fuses or breakers if the outlet is not working.
- 4). Unplug the washing machine and wait two minutes for the motor and the electronics to cool down. Plug the appliance back in and press the "Power" button on the control panel. This process also resets the internal computer, clearing minor software problems.
