Bonn Bonn is best known for being the birthplace of Beethoven and for being the capital of West Germany during the cold war.

History Of Bonn Situated on the Rhine River, Bonn is the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven.
Its history dates back to 11 BC, when the Roman Army appeared to have built a small contingent within the town's wall.
In 1949, it became a provisional capital for West Germany.
However, in 1991, the capital moved back to Berlin after the unification of Germany's government.
Bonn There are countless sites to see around Bonn - some speak volumes about the city's history while some would bring you closer to nature.
Close to the marketplace is Bonngasse which is the birth place of Beethoven.
Then there's the Old Town Hall, erected in 1737 under the governance of Clemens August of Bavaria, the building boasts of an intriguing Rococo style.
Near the town all is the Kurfürstliches Schloss, which currently serves as the University of Bonn's main building.
Next stop is the Poppelsdorfer Allee, which is lined with chestnut trees and links the Kurfürstliches Schloss together with a palace called Poppelsdorfer Schloss, which was built as the prince-elector's resort during the early year of the 18th century.
You can also drop by the Münsterplatz where the monument of Beethoven is found - the site is between the Bonn Minster which is one of the oldest churches in Germany.
For animal lovers, the Alexander Koenig Museum is a must-see as well as its zoological collections.
The Alter Zoll is another tourist attraction.
In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was used as a fort.
Now it offers a breath taking panoramic view of Siebengebirge Mountains.
If you love plants, Bonn University has a diverse collection in its botanical gardens which is located at the center of the city.
This tranquil and silent place has an assortment of orchids from the Amazons and towering trees that are only found in North America.
Getting To Bonn Bonn is 20km from Cologne so both cities share an airport (Cologne-Bonn Airport) which is popular with low cost airlines for destinations around Europe.
If you are traveling on a Eurail pass then Bonn is easy to get to if you are coming from Cologne or Frankfurt.
