One of the best Hotels in Nairobiis this Ngong House - an elegant and sophisticated hideaway in the Karen/Langata section of Nairobi. Some of its luxury guest accommodations are in tree-houses, which are unlike any tree-houses you have seen before. Set in large gardens for a private, secluded feel, it is nonetheless an easy drive from the airport and the city centre. Originally a hunters home, this privately owned property is a unique place to stay during your visit to Kenya. Your host is a former Belgian diplomat who has served extensively in Africa.
Ngong House Rooms
Most of the accommodations are in tree houses; some have two levels. There is also a private cottage facing the swimming pool, and a log cabin. There is a suite in the main house if you prefer, which is also available to disabled guests. The property is unique, and so are its accommodations. You can sleep in a carved, mosquito-net draped bed under a peaked wood roof, or enjoy a stained-glass window set into a log wall. Another bed is formed from a carved boat. One bathroom has a double vanity with painted porcelain sinks in a log vanity; another has a unique canoe-shaped bathtub. The rooms are designed to be luxurious and comfortable.
Ngong House Restaurants & Bars
Belgian-trained Kenyan chefs prepare a variety of gourmet meals of seafood or meat, accompanied by local produce. Breakfast and lunch are served in the gardens. Dinner is in a half open rondavel, complete with candles and a fireplace. A small bar is shown with an open fireplace and small nooks for intimate conversation.
Ngong House Facilities
Enjoy the surrounding gardens, or the swimming pool. The hotel is near the Karen Blixen museum, and within walking distance of a giraffe sanctuary. The hotel staff can arrange a variety of tours and trips so that you can experience Kenyan culture and wildlife. The owners wife is a noted fashion designer, and has her own boutique on the property.
