Updated April 25, 2014.

Definition: Standardized servings determined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as part of the Nutritional Labeling and Education Act. The NLEA servings are used on food labels. They make it easier for you to figure out how the nutrition information relates to the amount of food that's found inside the package.

Common household measures are used, such as cups, tablespoons, pieces, fractions, and ounces.

This makes it easier for you to picture a serving size in your mind while your'e shopping for packaged foods.
