How to Start a Wood Fire
- 1). Crumble up paper and use it to build the base for your fire. Use enough paper to cover the area that will encompass the fire.
- 2). Arrange small sticks and kindling into a tent shape over the paper base.
- 3). Place lit matches in the paper base in several locations. The entire base will be burning within a few minutes.
- 4). Let the fire burn until the paper burns completely and the tent of sticks is flaming well.
- 5). Begin adding larger pieces of wood slowly. Place the wood in a grid pattern in order to allow for good airflow. Ensure that each new piece of wood is burning before adding more.
