When people buy their first holiday home, they can feel a bit intimidated because they don't know what they need, or what they should do to maintain the home.
These feelings are all normal because how are you supposed to know what to do, if you have never done it before.
You need to help when you first buy your holiday home, but you don't really know where to turn.
The estate agent, or whoever sold you the house should give you a booklet or some advice about what things you will need to do.
However, they are not required to do this, so don't depend on it.
Neighbors You could start by making friends with the neighbors and asking them if they have any advice for you.
If they are nice people, they will tell you what they struggled with when they first moved in.
However, if people have bought their home so that they can be there on vacation then they might not be there all the time.
You might knock next door and find that the owners are not there.
The renters might be there and they won't know much about maintaining the home.
If you are at a loss for what to do and how you are going to maintain the home when you are not there, then you have done the right thing by researching on the internet and landing on this article.
So, read ahead for some tips on getting started with your holiday home.
  1. Maid - You should invest in a maid service, especially if you want it to rent it out to other people, because you won't be there to tidy up the house before the holidaymakers get there.
If you let people turn up and the home is covered in dust, then they will never book your home for their holiday ever again.
If you want to rent the home out then you need to think of it as a business and look at the home with a professional eye.
Furnish it for everyone, but make sure the place is clean before your customers arrive.
If you have a maid service then they will have a key to the house and they will even clean once a week if you need them to.
  2. Building Work - As part of the building work, you will have to make sure that there is no heat damage to the walls and you will have to make sure the landscaping is perfect.
Again, you won't be there to do this, so you will need to hire a janitor or a grounds man to take care of this.
You might have trouble finding this so it is better for you if you ask at reception, if your home is on a gated community, if they have someone that they can recommend.
  3. Pool Cleaning Equipment - If you have a pool on your new property, then you are going to need pool-cleaning equipment.
You are not going to get paying customers to stay in your villa if the pool is not clean.
    It won't happen.
You want your customers to swim in clean water, you do not want them to picking leaves out of the pool when they are supposed to be relaxing on their holiday.
Invest in some good pool cleaning equipment.
    You won't regret it.
Your pool will be perfect when you arrive for your own holiday.
