How to Prepare the Best Resume

    • 1). Gather your information in one place before you begin to write your resume. This information includes the names, dates and locations of all jobs; the names and dates of any schools attended, along with any degrees or certificates earned; and an accurate list of your contact information.

    • 2). Make a list of any accomplishments or achievements associated with each job you have held. Do not list responsibilities; list things that set you apart at each position. Then list your strengths and abilities as they apply to the job for which you are applying.

    • 3). Use a traditional resume format, and plug in your information. The traditional work-history style works best for just about everyone. There are four sections. The objective states what job you are applying for and what you hope to accomplish. The summary gives a list of your strengths and skills. The history details your jobs and what you accomplished in each one. And finally, the education section explains your academic background.

    • 4). Have someone else proofread your resume. Never rely on yourself to proofread; a second set of eyes is always better. If possible, have a friend or colleague who is in the same field read it for you and offer pointers.
