    Camping Merit Badge Requirements

    • There are 10 requirements for the camping merit badge: knowing outdoor first-aid proficiency, learning the Leave No Trace principles, writing a plan for an overnight trip, assigning tasks to members of your pack for a camp out, making a list of appropriate items needed for a camping trip, describing the types of tents available, gathering and preparing equipment for a pack out, learning how to use a camp stove, camping for at least 20 days and 20 nights and, finally, discussing what you learned while earning this badge. For the specifics of these requirements visit www.meritbadge.org.

    Completing the Requirements

    • Some requirements have a sub-list of activities. Read the requirement carefully to determine if all of these items need to be completed or if you may choose only two items to be completed. The list of requirements is specific in the tasks you must complete. You are not required to do anything more than what is listed. Likewise, you must complete every requirement as stated and no less.

Meeting With the Merit Badge Counselor

    • The merit badge counselor has skills in specific areas. Your Scout leader will give you the name of your counselor. He will be able to assist you with completing the badge requirements. You will also need to meet with him and demonstrate your skills before he will sign your badge application. When meeting with the merit badge counselor, you must bring a buddy. This can be another Scout or a friend, parent or other relative.

    Receiving Your Badge

    • Once your merit badge counselor signs your badge application, give it to your Scout leader, who will secure the badge and present it to you at a pack meeting.
