Poker is a game with many different varieties, including Texas Hold'em, five-card draw and seven-card stud. The table on which these games are played can vary slightly. A poker table made specifically made for Texas Hold'em will look different than a general poker table made to accommodate multiple games types. You can commonly find a number of objects and enhancements on a typical poker table. - You can't play poker without a deck of cards. All 52 cards are in play for most poker games. There is no limit to the designs and sizes to playing cards. Any standard deck will suffice to play a game. Standard poker cards measure 3.5 inches in length and 2.5 in width.
- Poker chips constitute the currency of the poker table. Chips can be made of many materials like plastic or clay. Clay chips weigh more than other kinds and make the classic sound associated with gambling when struck against each other. The chips come in different colors; some have pre-printed amounts on them, while others come in solid colors, allowing players to determine the amount of the chip before the game begins.
- The table top itself is felt. It may come in many different colors but the most common is green. The felt will not damage cards and makes it easy to slide them across the table. Many tables feature markers on the felt to designate where each player sits. The middle of the table shows any community cards all players can use for games like Texas Hold'em and Omaha. Many tables will have outlines for placement of those community cards.
- The button is normally white with the word "Dealer" written in black on each side. The button works in games where blinds (a kind of ante) rotate around the table. The button passes to the next player at the end of each hand. Smaller buttons designating the big blind (or highest ante), and the small blind may also be passed around.
- Each player has a small area in front of him, which normally holds the current chip stack. Some tables offer built-in trays to place the chips in. The table may also contain cup holders to avoid spills.
