The fashion (or modes), and more specifically fashion dress, means how to dress according to the taste of a time in a given region. This is a phenomenon involving the collective through the company, the look she returns, it imposes codes and individual taste.

Fashion is not just about clothing but also accessories, makeup, perfume and even bodily changes. Factors determining the mode are sometimes aesthetics (including the great creators). However, fashion is also determined by other factors, for those who follow: a means to assert their social status, social group, its purchasing power and personality, or for designers who imitate a convenient way to earn money and success.

One of its features is its constant change, prompting thereby renewing the clothing before it is worn or inadequate.

Historical

The notion of fashion can not be understood in a utilitarian angle. Indeed it exceeds the need to fully dress. This fashion has long been the privilege of the aristocracy at court and upper classes imitating the methods of the Court prior to popularize and become a mass phenomenon. Thus the term appears in 1482 and refers to changes in the details of the garment reserved for the elite and the phrase "new fashion" from 1549 is "being fashionable" 1.

The sixteenth century saw the birth of the first "fashion magazines", including some illustrated newspapers. Gallery modes and costumes is French and published in 1778. It is also this time that what was then called the "dolls France." Before, we can speak of modes brought to the Court and costumes, but this belongs to the history of costume and in centuries while fashion is evaluated in decades. The man, however, since prehistoric times, loved to decorate. The rise of fashion is largely due to three main factors constituting the contemporary consumer society;
- Mass production, which can duplicate articles in large quantities;
- The birth of a first form of "urban middle class" due to the rural exodus;
- The mass distribution of the press, which is a first order relay.

Fashion is associated is a multifactorial phenomenon. It combines the creative, media, industrial and commercial, which is a complex element of society. It can be seen as a social and cultural reflex. Indeed, with the development of means of communication and transportation, virtually all creations in the field of clothing are available to the majority of people, all groups combined.

Fashion can be seen as a strictly artisanal or artistic expression, and as a tool of economic development, for example through its textile and manufacturing industries, poorly-raised.

Since the mid-twentieth century, fashion has gradually built up a picture of inevitable social phenomenon. Dressmakers, as Paul Poiret mentioned at the beginning of the century, and Madeleine Vionnet, Cristobal Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Cardin and Coco Chanel Andr Courrges, Nina Ricci and more recently, Thierry Mugler, Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, Christian Lacroix, Helmut Lang and Miuccia Prada, Tom Ford and Antoine Chaulieu have become public figures. They gradually transformed into trendsetters for the big names of international distribution. Their role has become closer to the ordinary consumer public. The paradox remains that their growing reputation ranks among the celebrities, stars magazines or people, or sector, or even the media, such as television or film.
