How to Change Rear Brake Shoes on a 1997 Plymouth Breeze
- 1). Park the vehicle on level ground. Place blocks in front of the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
- 2). Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels using a lug wrench.
- 3). Raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack. Place jack stands beneath the vehicle to support it.
- 4). Remove the rear wheels.
- 5). Slide the drum off the wheel studs. If the drum will not move, use a hammer to hit the sides of the drum to loosen it.
- 6). Inspect the drum for visible wear. If you can see grooves in the drum, replace it.
- 7). Remove the springs and spring clips from the brake shoes. Remove the old brake shoes.
- 8). Install the new brake shoes. Reinstall the springs and clips onto the brake shoes.
- 9). Place the drum back onto the wheel hub. Turn the adjuster screw assembly one-quarter of a turn, counterclockwise, until the drum fits snugly.

Place the wheels back onto the vehicle. Loosely place the lug nuts on the wheel studs. - 12
Raise the vehicle slightly using the jack. Remove the jack stands from under the vehicle. - 13
Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts onto the wheel studs using a lug wrench. - 14
Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brakes.
