How to Cut Roller Shades
- 1). Install the shade brackets on each side of the window opening. Measure from bracket end to bracket end to determine the shade's width.
- 2). Take out the small, stationary pin that is in one of the roller mechanisms on the ends of the shade.
- 3). Unroll the shade so that the connection between the shade and roller barrel is visible. Peel back the shade a few inches from one end of the barrel and remove the roller mechanism on that end. With a small hand saw, cut the barrel to the width measurement you took in step 1.
- 4). Unroll the shade fully. Use a yardstick to mark off the new width, drawing a guiding line the full length of the roller shade. Draw the line in pencil so that you can erase the marks. Cut along the line to trim the shade.
- 5). Re-roll the shade and push the end mechanism back in place. Reattach the stationary pin and hang the shade from the brackets.
