How to Make Baby Shower Fortune Cookies as a Craft Project
- 1). Cut the paper into 1-inch-by-3-inch strips. Write a joke or riddle on each strip. They can be baby or pregnancy related, or just female-centric. Fold each strip of paper in half lengthwise.
- 2). Knead a piece of polymer clay until it's soft. You can use pink or blue -- or both -- clay, or use tan clay and write the fortunes on pastel paper. Once the clay is soft, roll it flat with a rolling pin on a smooth surface until it's about 1/16 of an inch thick and at least 3 inches across.
- 3). Place an inverted drinking glass with a diameter of about 3 inches on top of the rolled out polymer clay and press down as if it's a cookie cutter. Remove the glass and remove the excess clay from around the circle cutout.
- 4). Peel the circle from the surface carefully. Smooth the edge with your finger. Set the circle of clay aside and continue to roll and cut the clay until you have the number of circles you need.
- 5). Fold the circle in half, pinching the ends together slightly. Don't press the halves together.
- 6). Place a bamboo skewer in the center of the folded side of the half-circle. Gently pull the two pointed ends in until they meet. The skewer should be in the middle of a fortune cookie shape at this point. Leave a gap in the seam to allow you to add the fortune later. Repeat the folding with the other clay circles.
- 7). Preheat the oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the cookies on a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Allow the "cookies" to cool completely.
- 8). Slip a folded paper into the open seam of each fortune cookie.
- 9). Give each guest a fortune cookie soon after they arrive. Have the guests read the jokes aloud as an ice-breaker.
