Going green seems to be a big topic today and for good reason.
There are ways to go green when breastfeeding as well.
If you are someone who is conscientious about the environment and your part in taking care of it, we have some suggestions for you.
There is nothing greener than milk from your breasts because it has no container or packaging that will later be waste.
Formula feeding creates waste on many levels when you consider the packaging the formula comes in and the energy spent to produce it in the factory.
Producing breast milk and storing breast milk does not affect energy costs because you do not need to heat it up or keep it refrigerated.
Nursing your baby is the green choice already, but there are a couple of things you can do to take your green theory a step further.
Nursing pads are an essential item during your days, weeks, months, and possibly years of breastfeeding.
As a breastfeeding mother you probably already know that, but did you know there are all different kinds of nursing pads? The disposable pads are the worst for the environment simply because of the waste they create when you throw them away.
There are washable nursing pads on the market that support the green theory of reusing things.
In addition to washable pads, you can go a step further and only get the organic nursing pads.
Organic material has no toxic chemicals used in manufacturing or processing the fabric.
Another product to pay attention to when going green and breastfeeding is your milk storage container.
You want to make sure if you are using milk storage containers that they too are washable and reusable.
There are milk trays and containers that are all freezer safe.
