Many kits, books or magazine projects list a particular brand of thread - most commonly the designer's favorite, or the brand that is most common in their area.

This doesn't mean you are stuck with that particular brand.

If you prefer a different brand of thread rather than the one recommended by the designer, a conversion chart will help you find the corresponding color numbers and/or color names from other manufacturers.
