It has been known for ages that proper lighting can transform an aging actress back into a young beauty and that a great photographer is worth a fortune because of how he lights and portrays his subjects.
When it comes to your home or business, proper lighting sets the tone as well.
Most importantly for home and business owners that want to be environmentally responsible, lighting is one of the best and quickest places to save money in your home.
GE Lighting, Phillips and a few other companies have invented ways to cost you less money up front, make your bulbs last several times longer and save you a ton of money in energy bills.
While lighting companies have been heading in this direction for a long time, the federal government's current legislation has forced them to speed up the process by phasing out the incandescent light bulb by 2014 and implementing more cost efficient, environmentally friendly options.
Isn't it great when the government actually does something really good on our behalf? According to GE Lighting, there are an estimated 4 billion screw-based light sockets in American homes.
I have no doubt that if you can make each bulb in each socket use less energy and last twice as long, the energy savings related to this transition would be huge.
Why is this important to you? We all want more efficient bulbs that can save us energy, money and be replaced less often.
If you can save money without any effort on your part.
Why not? And to answer the most important question, yes.
They fit just fine in your existing lamps.
I have a bunch of them.
There are a couple things to keep in mind.
I strongly recommend the mercury free version especially if you have kids that tend to every now and then knock something over.
Additionally, all bulbs are not created equal and there are a variety of different shapes, sizes and types of light that they give off, so do your homework and some experimentation until you find the ones that are best for you.
We use about 6 different types of energy saving bulbs at our house depending on the type of fixture and location in the house.
These new cost-efficient, energy efficient bulbs are a great way you can do your part with very little effort.
Most retailers, Home Depot, Menards, Lowes and Target to mention a few are all carrying versions of the new energy saving bulbs.
Thanks to the competition and attempt to differentiate, the quality will continue to improve and the cost will always be reasonable.
Anyway that you look at it, we all win.
Cheaper cost, longer lasting, as good or better lighting and better for the environment.
That works for me and my check book and should do the same for you.
