Budgeting for all the various elements of your wedding is vital and this includes even the small things like your wedding favors.
Trouble is applying realistic costs to everything can be difficult and favors are no exception, especially as you will have no idea early on how many you will need or what you will buy! Once you begin your wedding planning you will need to complete a wedding budget form and apply a cost to everything you want.
Having an idea of how much money you will have to spend in the first place is a good starting point and you can get an idea of prices for things like your catering, photographs and dress from the internet and by ringing suppliers.
This should help you apply a realistic figure to your budget planning and work to keep costs within your total budget.
With wedding favors however it can be easy to forget that favors do not just consist of the actual gift.
There are several other elements to consider as well:
  • The favour itself
  • The packaging
  • Additional decorations - ribbons, stickers etc
  • Thank you tag
As well as these there is the cost of shipping if you order online or through a mail order company and any applicable taxes.
If you are having a large wedding and will need a big number of favors you may be able to get free shipping if you meet the minimum spend terms.
However, for the sake of your budget it maybe worthwhile adding this cost in.
To come up with an overall cost you will first need to calculate the cost per favour including all of the above (whether you later need them or not).
Visit some online favour stores to get an idea of average prices.
The industry is very competitive so prices will not vary by much but discounts and quantity pricing might.
Once you have an average price for the favour, do the same for your packaging and decorations and add a nominal cost for shipping.
If packaging and decorations come in packs divide the price by the number included and add this to the cost per favor.
Once you have a cost per favor you can multiply it by the number of guests or anticipated number.
It is a good idea to add on an extra ten percent to your numbers to allow for any last minute additions, breakages etc.
It is also a nice idea to send a favour to anyone who could not make it.
Providing you have been realistic with your sums you should find you have a healthy budget available for your wedding favors and one which can be adjusted downwards if needs be.
