Log Home Interiors Paint Colors
- You can allow yourself some color for the interior of the cabin without sacrificing the rustic quality.log cabin background 2 image by Lee O'Dell from Fotolia.com
Contrary to popular belief, the log cabin was not the first type of house built in America. According to This Old House, "The Pilgrims came with a taste for late-medieval architecture: post-and-beam construction, sawn-plank siding and diamond-paned windows." It wasn't until expansion in a westerly direction happened around the 18th century that log cabins began to enjoy popularity. For many, a log cabin is a rustic place to get away from the demands of modern living: a place of quiet and contemplation. While some people adore the continuous wood interior of a typical wood cabin, other people find it limiting and long for a splash of color. You can easily incorporate a burst of color without sacrificing the rustic wood quality inherent in the cabin. - A single bright wall in a log cabin can break up the monotony of the wood-paneled interior without giving the interior an overwhelming or contemporary quality. For example, warm colors like cranberry and sienna are evocative of the warm colors of the surrounding wood and will thus enhance this quality. On the other hand, a cooler color like evergreen or even dusty blue will contrast with the warm effects of the surrounding wood, which will spotlight the wood even more.
- Cream was an extremely popular color for walls in colonial homes. Painting the interior walls or an interior wall of your log cabin is a way to connect the east and west of America's distant past. A cream wall gives the rustic interior a touch of colonial style that still works well with a range of decor strategies. It also brightens the space a great deal.
- Muted colors are suitable for someone who wishes to disrupt the conformity of the interior of the cabin in an extremely subtle fashion. For dark wood interiors, a light tan or sand colored wall here and there could significantly lighten the interior without spotlighting the fact that you've painted some of the walls. On the other hand, for a very bright or warm wood interior, a darker color like chocolate brown or coffee can create a very dramatic, striking space that still has a rustic quality.
