How to Tour the Quirky Side of New York City
- 1). Take a trip to the Chinatown tunnel. By going through the unmarked door and down a long staircase, you'll be introduced to one of the tackiest malls in New York. This tunnel also has some historical significance: It is rumored to have been a stop on the infamous underground railroad.
- 2). Enjoy the earthy side of the city by visiting the Earth Room. It is located at 141 Wooster St. and is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. When folks say the room is full of dirt, they don't mean it figuratively. The space is full of earth dug up in Soho. Although this may sound like an odd place to visit, many people who have claim it is one of the sweetest-smelling places in New York.
- 3). Visit the Maxilla and Mandible store located at 451-455 Columbus Ave. If the name of the store didn't give it away, it is indeed full of bones. There are several gory items on display and for sale. Bones from animals, insects and some stuffed creatures are among the more popular items.
