How to Make Homade Herbal Teas
- 1
Organic Herbs
Use only organic herbs and spices. One of the most enticing aspects of making one's own herbal teas is purity. Organic herbs and spices are free of chemicals and other chemical additives. Fresh herbs are best for full flavor. - 2
Fresh Turmeric
Turn to turmeric and ginger for an immune-boosting tea. Boil two cups of distilled water. Add two tablespoons each of turmeric and ginger. Bring it to a boil and simmer gently for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine tea strainer. Remove from heat; add freshly-squeezed lemon juice and honey to taste. Drink immediately while warm. - 3
Create an herbal blend from the garden. Just as you would think about what spices or other ingredients blend well for a dish, so you want to consider the flavors and aromas you want to enjoy with herbal teas. Fresh or dried chamomile and lavender blend for a soothing tea. Add one tablespoon of dried or two tablespoons of fresh lavender and chamomile. Add them to one cup of distilled water and allow it to steep for five to seven minutes. Sweeten with raw, organic honey, if desired. This blend makes a good night tea. - 4
Chicory
Perk up your spirits by adding a bit of chicory and cinnamon to hibiscus and chamomile. Using one tablespoon of each, plus one tablespoon of orange peel, allow it to steep for at least 10 minutes. Add lemon juice for a bit of tang. You can add the herbs and spices to organic green tea for added health benefits. - 5
Blend some herbs into caffeinated black tea. Not all herbal teas have to be caffeine free. Add dried oranges, one tablespoon each of dried organic black tea, hibiscus and a cinnamon stick for an orange spice black tea. Enjoy the tea in the morning or for a mid-day pick-me-up. Add honey to release the flavors of the herbs and spices.
